Multiplexing ATM Traffic Streams with Time-Scale-Dependent Arrival Processes

چکیده
This paper presents a exible traac model which is capable of describing traac dynamics on a variety of timescales associated with broadband packet networks such as ATM. The model is applied to the study of Non-Deterministic Periodic (NDP) sources as well as Variable Bit Rate (VBR) video sources in which cells are delivered at a sub-frame level referred to as a slice. An eecient numerical technique is presented for the study of a nite-capacity multiplexer under an input process determined by the superposition of N of the proposed traac models. Numerical results support the assertion that the timescales at which variations in a cell arrival stream occur have a signiicant impact on multiplexer performance, thereby illustrating the relevance of the proposed modeling and analytical techniques.

Performance analysis of statistical multiplexing of heterogeneous discrete-time Markovian arrival processes in an ATM network
The cell loss probability and the mean cell delay are major performance metrics in analyzing a statistical multiplexer loaded with a superposition of independent and heterogeneous bursty sources. In this paper, we model each arrival process by a two-state discrete-time Markovian arrival process (D-MAP). We discuss that this traffic modeling is more realistic than the other ones in ATM networks....

This paper describes the use of PC terminals, connected to the EXPLOIT Testbed, as ATM traffic generators in statistical multiplexing experiments. Each terminal can produce real-time ATM traffic of the ON/OFF type with arbitrary, programmable ON and OFF sojourn time distributions and inject it into the testbed at programmable peak rates up to 55 Mbit/s. By multiplexing many such streams on the ...
متن کاملAnalytic study of multiplexing effects in two-class queues with correlations
An improved (i.e., reduced) quasi-birth-death representation of a FIFO queue with two separate traffic streams (and dedicated service processes) is combined with ETAQA truncation to yield scalable finite approximations of the two departure processes from this queue. Via matrix-analytic techniques, these models may be used to study various arrival/service interdependences between the two traffic...
